The global policy agenda is currently being implemented at the local level—through “smart city” planning, Agenda 2030 regulations, “rewilding” endeavors, and many more policies that infringe upon property rights, freedom of entrepreneurship, freedom of movement, and availability of food, water, and energy.
The upside is that the local level offers the best opportunity to effectively push back. But where to begin?
To answer that question, I invited Solari hero and frequent Financial Rebellion guest Reinette Senum to guide us through the ins and outs of local politics. Reinette is a former mayor, council member, and activist who is distinguished for her community service. Recently, at her Foghorn Express Substack, Senum wrote a number of important posts in a series she called “The Hill to Die On” covering the aggressive U.S. push by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Congress, and the White House to bypass local control and oversight over the placement of telecommunications infrastructure.
In this interview, Reinette takes us through the basic workings of local government, describing the “how-to’s” of finding and tracking information, speaking effectively at public meetings, and mobilizing your fellow citizens. In addition, as illustrated by her personal example, she encourages people to influence their local government’s actions by getting elected themselves. By explaining the nuts and bolts and the myriad ways that you can get involved, she shows how to get local politics working for the people again.
