Our friends, Dr. Dana and her assistant, visit Francis (and his stablemates) about once a year for a "tooth-check," and smooth away any sharp edges or other irregularities, a procedure known as floating. They are given something to relax them during all the noise and discomfort. Apparently donkey's and horse's teeth grow all the time and are ideally worn down by eating.
