In this ‘Mehdi Unfiltered’ interview, Mehdi Hasan interviews Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong, who is leading in the primary polls and is pushing back against establishment Democrats who suggest she’s unelectable.
Politically, Wisconsin is known for its swing voters, thin margins and its back and forth support for Donald Trump. But, it also has a rich history with socialism.
In the conversation, Mehdi and Hong discuss her campaign, as she attempts to become the U.S.’s first democratic socialist governor in an effort to beat establishment Democrats. Hong also explains her stance on Israel and Palestine, why she has not walked back from her call to defund the police and what democratic socialism means to her.
