In her autobiography “I’ll Scream Later” Marlee Matlin shared her experience as a victim of abuse from actor William “Bill” Hurt while they were in a romantic relationship.
In this scene from the film Marlin explains that she did not fully understand the concept of “Domestic Violence” and the discourse around it because there were not accessible resources available to the deaf community, touching on the larger issue of “language deprivation” that deaf people have to contend with.
