This is the fifth in an ongoing series explaining and illustrating the new collaboration between the Mokuhankan printmaking venture and the old Doi Hanga publishing house.
In this episode, our young printer Ayumi Miyashita begins the production of the first 'major' print in this collaboration - an image of Matsuhima created by shin-hanga designer Tsuchiya Koitsu back in 1936.
After a short 'interview', we'll see her prep the paper, take the key block impression, and then begin the first of the colour tones.
This print is not yet in our catalogue, but the smaller one mentioned - the Kamigamo Shrine image - can be found here: mokuhankan.com/catalogue/0301.php
A note about the final scenes of the video - walking in Asakusa outside the shop. These were recorded with binaural microphones hidden in my ears, and if you play this back using headphones, you will experience a vidid 'surround sound' sense of being there in a 360 degree soundspace ...

![Ukiyoe Heroes (11) : Fox Moon - preparation for carving
Recorded in the Tokyo workroom of woodblock printmaker David Bull, this video shows the first stages of production of the next print in Jed Henrys Ukiyoe Heroes series - Fox Moon. It illustrates how Jeds design - which comes to Dave in a Photoshop file - ends up on the surface of a hard cherry block, ready to carve.
