Nora had the same double take you probably just did. Is that milkweed? Look closer: it's dogbane, milkweed's easy to miss look-alike here in the Piedmont.

Nora spotted a dogbane beetle doing exactly what its name promises, working through a few leaves. Dogbane beetles depend on this plant the same way monarchs depend on milkweed.
