Does travelling make you a better person? Does travel change you? Will travel make you happy? My experience from over 225,000km/140,000miles of travel in 2019.

This year I have travelled a lot and have been interested to see if my happiness changed due to travel.

I am sure you have seen it heaps before: Instagram and YouTube travel content, where everyone posts amazing pictures from all the travel adventures around the world. It would be easy to think that if you do more travel you will be happier, I am sad to disappoint you and tell you that it is unlikely to impact your happiness directly.
There are lots of things you can get from travel, great cultural experiences, holiday adventures and time with loved ones, but this doesn't mean your overall happiness level will increase.
There is a large amount of research showing that gratitude will change your life if you use it regularly and this is much more likely to be effective at improving your happiness than travel.
Other things that can really increase your happiness are: getting enough sleep, exercising and having a regular schedule.
