Does the NEW Fairline 58 GTO Live Up to the Hype? Test, Tour & Review (2026) @Yachtbuyer

The Fairline Targa 58 GTO isn't just another new model. This is an important yacht for Fairline.

It marks the return of the GTO name, brings an entirely new design above the waterline and arrives at an important moment for the British builder. So the question for this YachtBuyer review is simple: can the Targa 58 GTO put Fairline back at the front of the pack?

In this full Tour, Sea Trial & Review, Jack Haines gets aboard hull number one before its official Cannes debut to explore every part of the new 58 GTO before putting its performance to the test on the water. And there's plenty here that's genuinely new. Drop the huge cockpit balconies and the aft living area expands to around 27m². There's a hydraulic bathing platform, outdoor galley, enormous dining area and a tender garage capable of carrying a Williams 325 – or even a 345 with its tubes partially deflated. But Fairline has done something particularly clever with that garage. Launch the tender and what would normally become wasted space transforms into a mini beach club, complete with teak decking, an overhead shower, Seabob storage, speakers and even a fridge. The hydraulic platform then rises to create a completely flush route straight to the water. Inside, a clever drop-down glazing system connects the cockpit and galley, while the large opening sunroof allows the enclosed saloon to feel much more like an open sports cruiser when the weather permits.
Below deck, the Targa shares its three-cabin layout with the Squadron 58, including a full-beam owner's cabin, forward VIP and convertible twin guest cabin.

Then there's the GTO part.

The test boat has the larger twin 1,000hp Volvo Penta D13s, producing 2,000hp through conventional shafts. We recorded around 32 knots on a two-way run, with 25 knots proving a comfortable cruising speed.

More importantly, it's genuinely enjoyable to drive. The steering is light, the hull feels planted and the Targa turns with an enthusiasm that suits both its looks and the revived GTO badge. Jack's verdict is simple: a sports cruiser should be fun to drive, and this definitely is.

It's not perfect. At around 75dB at cruising speed, Jack found the saloon noisier than he'd like for something wearing a GT badge. But beyond that, there was relatively little to criticise dynamically.

Most importantly, underneath the headline features, Fairline hasn't forgotten the craftsmanship and thoughtful details that make day-to-day ownership easier.
