I fell in love with The Lord of Rings first through the movies but my dad had already read them. He would tell me about the differences but the one that surprised me the most was to find out that Return of the King, the movie that had about 10 endings, actually cut out a giant chunk of the book, the Battle of the Shire. It took me several tries to finally get through LOTR but now that I have I’m left with the question: Does LOTR need the Battle of the Shire?
