We’re reacting to Jubilee’s “1 Black Conservative vs 20 Black Liberals” featuring Officer Tatum, but this conversation focuses on one particular argument that stood out: Tatum’s claim that the type of rap music many young Black men gravitate toward can have an influence on their mental state and ultimately contribute to crime within the Black community.
The guys break down Tatum’s argument and debate whether there is actually any credence to the idea that rap music can influence violent behavior or if the relationship between music, environment, culture and crime is far more complicated than that.
With Ashton filling in for Rod, the crew digs into the question from different perspectives and asks a bigger question: how much responsibility should we place on the music itself when discussing crime and violence in the Black community?
