A common claim online is that creatine causes hair loss or baldness and for many people, that fear alone is enough to avoid one of the most studied supplements in the world.
In this video, I review the actual human research behind creatine, hair loss, testosterone, DHT, kidney function, uric acid, and weight gain. The concern originated from a small 2009 study that looked at DHT levels, not hair loss itself — and crucially, those findings were never replicated. Since then, more than a dozen studies have examined creatine’s effects on testosterone and DHT, with no consistent evidence linking creatine supplementation to male pattern baldness.
I also explain an important concept most people miss: confounding variables. Resistance training itself can raise testosterone and DHT, and people who take creatine are usually training harder — making creatine an easy scapegoat. The video also covers kidney health, gout concerns, water weight vs fat gain, and why creatine has been unfairly blamed despite decades of safe use.
If you’re lifting weights, following a low-carb or keto-style diet, or considering creatine for muscle preservation, performance, or aging, this breakdown will help you separate myth from measurable outcomes.
