-Timeless Makeup and Ultimate Makeup Guide by Rae Morris are great, haven't read Makeup Masterclass yet but I know she poured a lot of work into it.
-Anything by Kevyn Aucoin, if not for the most up to date techniques, for a history lesson (I hate writing that but it's true) and art appreciation!

If you're interested in Special FX my friend Mike Spatola has written some truly incredible absolutely insane books on the subject, he's also amazingly talented and the main education director for a legit makeup school in LA (still expensive though):

-imdb is great for looking up who the actual crew members on productions
-you can use models.com database to look up agencies, who worked on editorials/campaigns, a ton of information
-for artistic inspiration and to stay up-to-date you can comb the vogue website for high-res, pretty immediately updated, unretouched close up shots of the makeup/hair on the runway for fashion week vogue.com/tag/misc/backstage-beauty
