Can an ultrasonic cleaner actually save old carburetors, or is it just another tool that promises more than it delivers?
In this video, I put a new ultrasonic cleaner to the test by trying to revive several small engine carburetors from equipment that had stopped starting or was running poorly. Instead of immediately replacing expensive carburetors, I wanted to see if a thorough ultrasonic cleaning could restore them and get these machines running again.
The test subjects include a Stihl MS170 chainsaw, Stihl leaf blower, Stihl Kombi powerhead, and a Subaru-powered pressure washer. All of these machines had developed starting or performance problems, and I had already worked through the common troubleshooting steps. I checked the spark plugs, air filters, fuel filters, fresh fuel, spark arrestors, and other basic maintenance items before deciding it was time to remove the carburetors and see if ultrasonic cleaning could make a difference.
