DO THIS TO BE A GREAT PUTTER | Legend Tom Watson
this is the way I aim a putt. I've determined first of all that this putt breaks about five feet. there's a big break in this putt. the first ball right in front of this ball right here is the Dave Stockton or Arnold Palmer method both of them advise me just to pick a spot on the maximum amount of break that you're going that you determine is going to happen in the putt pick that spot right in front of the ball and roll that over it this one is actually the maximum amount of brake that will be in the putt right there it's a little bit closer or 2/3 of the way into the putt like that there's another way of aiming uh for the for the big braking putt the method that I use is actually the far one over here which is 90° from the hole that is also on the line of the maximum break of this putt so this is what I do obviously I can't use this ball in front of it to make this putt but I'm going to get up here and I'm going to aim at that far ball right there and make a stroke just a little harder and that balls in but that's how I aim for a big braking putt like that 90° from the hole but you can do it any of the three ways and it's perfectly okay here's another tip that might help you make more braking putts when I look at this braking putt right here I have determined that it's got somewhere in this neighborhood of break that much break for this short of putt now I'm going to place a ball right down there in the center center of the hole right there as you're looking at it and you're going to say to me you know that that ball right there is is in the way you can't make this putt but in reality when I look at the way this pole is going to be breaking into this hole the center of the hole right here is going to be at about 8:00 7:30 8:00 maybe even 9:00 if the speed's just right it might lip in so that's the way I look at this putt I'm not looking at that center of the hole there I'm looking at the left side of that cup and this is how I'm to try to putt it in and that's how you look at this hole you look at an 8:00 tree right here you do that you're going to make more breaking putts

how to use various clubs from different distances using the same swing and letting the loft of the club do the work for you. I have a sand wedge here Im about 40 ft away from the green Ive got about 18 ft of green to work with using a putting stroke letting the loft of the club do all the work for you now well move up about five or six feet and well use a nine iron again using the same swing now your putting stroke Let The Loft do all the work for you then well move up about 20 ft away from the green and well go to an ad IR reason we want to go to an Adine is because it has less Loft the ball will come out lower and run H then as you get a little closer you can go down to the six iron again the ball will come out lower and run a little more one of my favorites is when I get around the green 3 or 4 feet away I like to use a very low lofted Club a 4 iron just using the little putting stroke itll clear The Fringe and run to the hole here we go same swing with five different clubs are you guilty of doing that moving that head way before the club ever gets to the ball well were all guilty of it sometimes well Ill tell you what you have to do if you keep missing these greens and youre having a difficult time getting the ball up and down you could be looking up on this ball let me see if I can help you with this first of all what you have to pick is the right club for that particular shot pick out a spot on that green very important that land the ball on that spot when you approach the ball and youre looking up to check for distance the last thing that you look at before the head comes back is that spot now whats very important is to keep your head down never look up and listen for the ball to land on the green its not very difficult there only two things that you have to do keep that head down and aim at that spot I hate this shot I dont even want to show it to you flown the green Ive got a very severe slope here chipping onto a very very hard green are you having a little problem with this shot Landing it too far short well chances are that youre using your old stroke hands in front of the club taking Loft off the club and balls hitting on the green and running too far what you have to do here when you approach the ball open up the blade and break your hands immediately away from the ball as youre coming back down into the stroke stop the left hand at the ball almost like there is a wall there this enables your right hand to break underneath and it adds Loft to the club let me demonstrate for you not bad for a guy that hates this shot oh you have to do is break stop the left hand youre going to get that ball a lot closer in the future and we got ourselves a tough one right here weve got us a downhill eye weve got a bunker to negotiate with here weve got a close- cut flag and we got us a little bass Pond over there well its not that difficult of a shot youre dumping this ball in this bunker chances are that youre breaking a little too much when youre going to execute this shot youre hitting behind it youre dumping Into the Bunker there is an easy way to play shot and its very simple open up the club face play the ball in the middle of your stance but the most important part is to keep the butt of the club and the forearm in a straight line all the way through the shot I broke a little bit on the way back but I held on through the swing and then you walk up on lies like this this is when I wished I was 65 its not that difficult of a shot what I do is I take an eight iron I open up the blade wide open the reason is because I dont want the grass to catch on the heel and bring it over I make sure that I keep the butt of the club and the forearm again in one line I aim a little to the right of Target get in ball get in both shots are played approximately the same way dont be afraid of it you can do it of the things that bothers me probably more than anything is when I see an average player walk into a bunker with a 79 in his hand now theres nothing wrong with having a 79 in your hand but you have to have perfect conditions for a 79 one the bunker has to be very smooth and the ball setting on top of it two you have to have a very low lip on the bunker three you have to have a lot of green to work with now youre probably sitting in your living room and youre looking at o and saying hey thats what I use as a 79 but I dont have any Success With It problem probably is that youre using too much hand action and youre either hitting the ball fat or youre blading it into the lip now the correct way to do this is to actually use your not only your putting grip but also get closer to the ball and use your putting stroke now remember the most important thing in this swing is that your body is perfectly still [Music] and the great thing about it is you dont have to go to a bunker to practice it you can do it right in your living room 6 AMAZING Chipping Tips From Legend Lee Trevino](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ePY_ZEld98U/mqdefault.jpg)
