Chandra is tested by an unfamiliar demonstrator for the Do as I Do Basic Exam.
First, she is required to imitate 6 familiar actions, chosen by the owner, when they are demonstrated by an unfamiliar person. Then she is shown a new behaviour (here: ring a bell).

Chandra was trained by her human companion Rossella Piras. Rossella learned the Do as I Do training protocol from the Do as I Do book (author: Claudia Fugazza) and attended our ONLINE CLASSES with our Official Do as I Do Trainer Sara Tagliati.

An interesting note: when shown “ring a bell” for the first time, Chandra imitates the demonstrator and touches it with her nose. But the bell does not ring.
Then, in the second trial, she first approaches the bell with her nose and then, since it still does not ring, she pushes it with her paw.
To know more about dogs’ understanding of the goals of our actions, see Fugazza et al. 2018 published in Journal of Comparative Psychology.
