The UK is home to around 270 species of bees. From bumblebees to solitary bees and our single honeybee species, they’re crucial for biodiversity and supporting our food systems.

Bees are more than just pollinators, however; they are an indicator of environmental health. Like other biodiversity they face challenges from habitat loss, unsustainable farming, climate change, and pollution.

One way to help is to track their status for the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme (PoMS) with a Flower-Insect Timed (FIT) Count. Spend 10 minutes observing insect visitors on flower patches in gardens, parks, or natural spaces between April and September, then submit your findings via the FIT Count app. PoMS is creating a critical evidence base for pollinating insects in the UK.
