Brendan Schulman, VP of Legal Affairs at DJI North America, has been working with the FAA on policy related to UAS, drones and FPV for over 6 years. But he's not "just a lawyer". Brendan is one of ours. He flies FPV and was also the lawyer that defended Trappy back in 2013.
In this episode Brendan puts a face on the FAA. He knows these people personally and has spoken with many of them for 6 years and counting. As he tells the rationale behind why what they have done isn't an "insane power grab" you begin to hear not only the wisdom of it, but also the fact that these folks don't want to destroy FPV and are, at least by his telling, attempting to keep it whole in a world that requires regulation by the dictate of Congress.

This one has a lightning rod on it. It was going to be that way regardless, but since the RDQ suit is now in full swing my take on this will likely be... contentious. I am 100% cognizant of the fact that I've perpetuated some of the "my monster" myth that we've tagged the FAA with, but if I'm going to be honest with myself and everyone else I need to be able to walk back those ideas. Listening to Brendan made me realize that the FAA haven't been people to me, just an obstacle.
