I got the Tello a couple of months ago as a birthday present to myself, so wanted to do a quick review with likes dislikes.
I like the quality, decent battery size, and GameSir T1D controller, the VPS position hold works really well inside or outside in light wind.
I don't like the price (especially UK price £99 just for Tello, it should at least come with the USB charger thrown in), and no onboard storage, so video/stills are recorded on your smartphone - which makes smooth video impossible.
If the price was better OR if it had onboard storage for video it would be near perfect !
Still I do think worth getting if your planning a DJI Mavic/Phantom as your first quadcopter, this would be a good first step to practice inside, learn the controls and get a feel for the kind of aerial video or stills you're interested in and whether you want to invest in something bigger.
It also weighs 89g ready to fly, so is well under the 250g threshold which requires any kind of registration or licencing, so i can see that is also a plus point.
There was an issue with Android app not recording video/stills, this is due to permissions prompt disapearing too quicly as the app starts, so the fix is to go into settings-Application Manager-Tello and under App Permissions check all 4 are enabled !
