DJI Agras T100 spray drone testing in the field — see how spray coverage, swath accuracy and drift risk are checked before commercial spraying. We follow a real-world deposition test to see where the spray actually lands and what farmers need to understand before putting an agricultural drone to work.

In the Lower Hunter Valley NSW, James and Mitch are testing the DJI Agras T100 under real operating conditions rather than simply relying on factory settings.

The team lays out a long paper test strip and applies coloured liquid across it before scanning the resulting spray pattern. By changing wind conditions, flight speed, swath width, nozzle settings and droplet size, they can see how evenly the drone applies spray and where the risks of drift or missed strips begin. This data informs their real world descisions.

We also look at what the T100 can do as a working piece of farm machinery, including high-speed spraying, variable-rate application, spot spraying, obstacle detection, battery turnaround and the ground systems required to keep a spray drone productive throughout the day.

For farmers considering agricultural drones, this is an important part of the story. Maximum speed and tank capacity mean little unless the machine can put the correct amount of product where it is supposed to go.

The broader discussion covers agricultural spray drones, drone spraying, swath deposition testing, spray drift management, droplet size, spray coverage, precision agriculture, variable-rate spraying, mapping, weed detection, broadacre spraying and the practical use of drones after wet weather when conventional spray equipment may struggle to enter a paddock.

We also look ahead to automated battery changing and refilling systems and the development of real-time AI-assisted spot spraying.
