apalrds adventures | DIY Water Softener Salt Tank Level Sensor for Home Assistant with MQTT @apalrdsadventures | Uploaded February 2022 | Updated October 2024, 13 hours ago.
If you've ever lived with hard water, you know how important a water softener can be. However, it's very easy to forget to add salt to the brine tank, so in this video, I describe the sensor I built to measure the salt remaining and push this data to Home Assistant, where I can configure alerts and track the salt usage over time.

For the CAD files, code, and a full description of the build, read the project page on my blog:

I use this sensor to measure the level of salt in my water softener brine tank, but you could easily use this sensor to measure the level of any tank. The sensor element is IP67 rated, but the 3D printed enclosure might need to be modified to survive outdoors.
