How to make a macrame net bag. This easy macrame pattern makes the perfect market bag, beach bag, and boho style purse! Please see below for the materials and written instructions:
My bag measures in at about 9in long and 8in wide. If you want a bigger bag, you can add more of the floating square knots, (just make sure its an even number!) I would add a little more length if you plan to make this longer. You can also end you bag with tassels too if you want, or add a fabric lining for added security.

🧵 ROPE USED:
5mm Cotton Air (braided) cord from Ganxxet
- 4 ropes measured 11ft (3.4m)
- 20 ropes measured 8ft (2.4m)
Instructions:
1) Take two 11ft cords and find the middle point. Measure 18in up from the middle and mark this spot.
2) From the spot you marked, begin tying approximately 19in of alternating half hitch knots moving downwards. Once finished, you should have the same amount of rope above and below your knots (about 4ft)
3) Attach an 8ft rope to the left side of the newly created bag handle with a square knot. Do the same to the right side.
4) Create 4 floating square knots.
5) Place the floating square knots with the bag handle in this order: floating SK, bag handle, 2 floating SKs, bag handle, floating SK.
6) Connect the square knots together by tying a row of alternating square knots.
7) Repeat steps 1 - 6 to make the 2nd half of the macrame bag.
8) Place the two bag half's next to each other and connect them together with a square knot.
9) Fold the left half behind the right half and connect the other side together with another square knot.
Tip: Hang your bag up if possible to make the rest of the pattern easier.
10) Tie 8 rows of switch square knots, leaving about a finger width of space between rows. Make sure the knots line up on both sides of the bag!
11) Tie two rows of normal square knots leaving NO space between the rows. This will start to close the bottom of the bag.
12) To close the bottom, take one rope and its mirror image (the rope directly behind it) and tie them together in a double knot. Do this with all ropes.
13) Trim off the ends to about an inch (or shorter) and then turn the bag inside out so they are hidden.
