In this video, I show how I converted our small, 4-person dining table to a 6-person dining table with only about $65 in materials, and a few hours of my time.
In short, I had the local home center cut a nice sheet of plywood to meet my specifications, and then I removed the side aprons, and screwed it all back together. It was remarkably easy. This was a project where nothing really went wrong in the build process--I just messed up the finish at one point and had to do some fixing.
In the end, I have a nice table that, while it won't be an heirloom, it will serve us well until our kids grow up a little. Then, I'll make an heirloom table that won't get destroyed by toddlers!
