Saving 200 grams of weight on your BTWIN Decathlon TiLT 900 bicycle can be done by replacing the bottom bracket. Exchanging the spline bottom bracket to a hollow bottom bracket is shown in the video. The cleaning of the threads in the aluminum is argued very important and since the aluminum is a relatively soft material the torque values are small, maximum 40 Nm (15-20 or 25 to 30 ft-Lbs). In the video it is shown that the traditional tapered square splined bottom bracket could easily be replaced with an SRAM GXP 68 mm, using a PRO BIKE bottom bracket removal tool and a BBT-9 tightening tool from Park Tool. To lubricate the sensitive and properly cleaned bottom bracket threads in the frame non-acidic Campagnolo grease was used to avoid oxidation of the threads and facilitate future removal of the newly installed bottom bracket. The importance of selecting the correct combination of the bottom bracket and crank arm system is also discussed. It is highlighted that the shims that arrive with your hollow (GXP, hollowtech II, etc.) bottom bracket are used to regulate the width of the bottom bracket so that it perfectly fits the frame as either being 68 mm or up to 73 mm wide frame that typically comes with mountain bikes.
