On April 13th 2023, we peacefully entered the Benalla pig slaughterhouses and chained our bodies directly in the path of the gas chamber, which otherwise would have brutally suffocated the hundreds of pigs in the holding pens.
We stayed there through the early hours of the morning, sitting in the cold and listening to the screams of pigs, waiting to be discovered by the workers.
As the sun began to rise, police arrived and asked us to leave the property. Knowing what would happen to the pigs if we left, we refused.
Activists were cut out of their chains and removed from the pens, race and chamber. It was over 12 hours before activists on the roof decided to come down. Seven activists were arrested, taken to Benalla police station and released on bail.
