For THAT to be the question asked when you go to the ER with your jaw locked open is completely disrespectful! 😡
Something like this can easily happen from a yawn in a person with hypermobility or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which is MUCH more common in women (which is why there haven't been many studies done on this).
People with hypermobility or EDS are more prone to having their jaw locked open and closed. Hypermobile joints don’t stop at your knees and shoulders. Your jaw joints can be affected as well! Jaw joint instability, clicking, being locked open or closed, and chronic pain are far more common in this community than most providers realize.
I am so sorry that you went through this experience @bendwithbrooklynn (on Instagram), and I hope you were able to be treated for your locked jaw. I hope this never happens to you again. I appreciate you sharing your story so that others can learn to keep advocating for themselves in situations like this!
