Disneyland officially reopened its iconic Pirates of the Caribbean attraction on June 26, 2026, following an eight-week refurbishment with a major high-tech update. The classic static skeleton sitting on a pile of cursed gold in the cavernous treasure room (Scene 11 - 6 min mark) has been replaced by a next-generation, transforming Audio-Animatronic pirate. This new addition has brought fresh storytelling to the dark ride but has also sparked mixed reactions among Disney fans. Many say the effect is out of place and cheaply executed. It does appear out of place in that is is seen just before the older mirror effect in the Treasure Grotto just before guests enter the scene with the pirate ship.
