Disney just admitted something that may explain years of frustrating creative decisions. While boldly acknowledging that Moana and The Mandalorian & Grogu underperformed at the box office, Disney executives argued those films were ACTUALLY still successful: because they drove revenue across streaming, merchandise, parks, and more.
Sure, we know they wanna sell toys. But if the movie doesn't actually have to succeed in theaters... what incentive is there to make better movies?
