THIS IS UNIVERSAL: A travel show where first-timers Paige and Jimmy seek the guidance of superfan Jake as they set out on a multi-day, park-to-park tour of Universal Orlando Resort’s most fantastic attractions, hotels, dining, and more. Watch them discover that it's more than magic. It's real.
Paige and Jimmy experience some wet and wild rides with Jake before relaxing in their private open-air cabana. Then, they dive into Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando Resort, a tropical island paradise.
Universal's Volcano Bay is a tropical-themed water park within Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida. Owned and operated by Universal Destinations & Experiences, it replaced the Wet 'n Wild water park and represents Universal Creative's first water park venture.
The park's centerpiece is Krakatau, a 200-foot-tall volcano featuring a variety of slides, including water coasters and capsule plunge slides. Krakatau is prominently displayed in the park's logo, serving as its iconic symbol.
Plans for Volcano Bay were first submitted in February 2015, with official announcements and construction details released later that year. The park, which cost approximately $600 million to build, spans 53 acres of the resort. It was designed to include a wave pool, thrilling slides, a lazy river, and a rapids slide.
Volcano Bay was officially unveiled on May 25, 2017. It is divided into four themed areas, each inspired by Polynesian islands and cultures:
Krakatau: This area features the Krakatau Aqua Coaster, which takes riders through the volcano and over a waterfall, and the Ko’okiri Body Plunge, a near-vertical slide that passes through the volcano. It also includes the Kala and Tai Nui Serpentine Body Slides and Punga Racers.
Wave Village: Designed for relaxation, it includes Waturi Beach (the main wave pool), The Reef (a calmer pool), Ohyah and Ohno Drop Slides, and Puka Uli Lagoon (a relaxation pool).
River Village: Tailored for families and younger visitors, this area features Kopiko Wai Winding River (a lazy river), Tot Tiki Reef (a toddler play area), Runamukka Reef (a multi-story water fortress), and two multi-passenger raft slides—Honu and Ika Moana.
Thrill Rides: Home to high-adrenaline slides, including Maku (a multi-passenger raft slide with saucer elements), Puihi (a multi-passenger raft slide with tunnels and funnels), TeAwa The Fearless River (a white-water rafting simulation), and Taniwha Tubes (solo or paired raft slides).
Volcano Bay has also appeared on TV shows, including Impractical Jokers, Food Network Star, and Top Chef Junior.
