The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is committed to research training and career development that prepares individuals to conduct innovative research in areas of program relevance that will advance the mission of the Institute.

(0:25) Dr. Nancy Desmond states NIMH’s goal to develop a robust portfolio of researchers for the future. She also notes that having a diverse workforce leads to the inclusion of different perspectives in the research conducted at NIMH.

(0:50) Dr. Janet Clark describes training opportunities at NIMH through the Intramural Research Program. She notes that the opportunities, resources, and expert faculty at NIMH are part of a program you can’t get anywhere else.

(1:38) Dr. Benjamin Suarez Jimenez, a postdoctoral research fellow, articulates that there’s no other program like the NIH-NIMH that offers the wealth of research and opportunities for education.

(2:06) Dr. Daniel Pine conveys the crucial role that a mentor
plays in a student trainee’s career and life. He also shares that he enjoys the day-to-day activities of mentorship.

(2:52) Dr. Benjamin Suarez Jimenez offers his perspective as a scientist and a researcher. He expresses all he has learned and how the NIMH training programs want to make sure that they are developing researcher that are vigorous, thoughtful, and who care about what type of researcher they are conducting and why they’re doing it.
