July in Japan is intense — a season loved and dreaded in equal measure. Some adore the summer atmosphere with vibrant matsuri (festivals), fireworks, and longer days. Others struggle with the extreme heat and humidity, especially in the big cities.
From my experience, I wouldn’t recommend Japan in summer for a first-time visit, unless you love the heat. The combination of high temperatures, crowds, and expensive accommodation can make it more exhausting than enjoyable.
