If you're seeing dirty water on the pool return after a backwash, then make sure you're doing your rinse cycle! My pool/filter was pretty clean this time so you couldn't see it as much, but I've forgotten the rinse cycle before when it's been dirty and got a nice burst of nasty water back into the pool after turning the filter back on.
