Sandwich panel is a trick that all Markforged user should know when working with continuous composite materials.
A sandwich panel is a load-distribution device that is similar to an I-Beam. In a sandwich panel, the top and bottom layers are made of fiber or some other strong material; the middle is made of nylon or another light material. In this design, the majority of the load is resisted by the carbon. The interior plastic simply transfers the sheer stress between the top and bottom layers.
In this one minute video, our application engineer Li Chen from Singapore will show you the magic behind sandwich panel.
