Shortly after the Wadsworth acquired this painting of Adam by Hendrick Goltzius, it was identified as a companion to a painting of Eve by the same artist in the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Strasbourg, France. The pair were reunited in the 2010 exhibition Reunited Masterpieces: From Adam to Eve and George to Martha, at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. They are being digitally reunited once again thanks to the generous support from the French American Museum Exchange (FRAME). Learn more at thewadsworth.org/frame-goltzius/.
