The 11th EU-Republic of Korea summit took place in Brussels on 10 June 2026. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and António Costa, President of the European Council, represented the EU. President Lee Jae Myung represented the Republic of Korea.
In her press statement, President von der Leyen celebrated the EU and Republic of Korea's strong cultural, political, and economic ties, noting the success of their 15-year-old trade deal and Korea’s support for Ukraine. She announced a Digital Trade Agreement, deeper economic security cooperation, and a new Competitiveness Partnership to boost industry and clean energy (including hydrogen and nuclear). Research and innovation collaboration—especially on AI and semiconductors—was also expanded, with Korea’s continued role in Horizon Europe. The summit underscored Korea’s status as a key EU partner in the Indo-Pacific, with both sides committing to turn agreements into concrete benefits.
