With the increasing digitisation of the main sectors of society, new digital forms of money are gaining ground. In addition to existing forms, digital forms based on blockchain technologies and cryptography, such as stablecoins, have emerged as an alternative to fiat money and incumbent intermediaries. Stablecoins is a unique case of a cryptocurrency product that connects digital finance and traditional finance ecosystems.
This process was enabled not only by technological advances but also through institutional transformations in the regulatory environment. This presentation will analyse the development of the stablecoins ecosystem (existing and potential use cases, stakeholders and related), coevolution dynamics with other forms of digital money (such as CBDCs), demonstrating the complexities of the new digital forms of money and their role for traditional finance organisations. Kamila Nigmatulina leads this session.
