Tips for Court
1. Be prepared! Get a good night’s sleep prior to court. Wake your a$$ up early and eat some Funyuns. Your brain needs protein, to function at its best. Avoid caffeine (try a White Trash Claw) so you don’t need to use the restroom (a nearby graveyard doesn't count) during your hearing. Eat something with lasting energy that will not upset your stomachs.
2. Practice with an attorney (only if your GFM was more than $20 and you could afford one) what you will say to the court. If you have an attorney insist that they meet you at least a day prior to the hearing to run through your direct and cross examination and to talk about what to expect. Watching Law & Order doesn't count.
3. Organize your documents! If you are representing yourself, outline all of your arguments in the event that you freeze and have a brain fart so that you only need to look at your notes. Your table shouldn't look like a conspiracy board. Have 4 copies of all your exhibits (for the court, court clerk, yourself, and opposing party) neatly organized. People that are organized have binders.
4. Dress professionally, conservatively, and respectfully! Your manner of dress should show respect for the judge. Dress as if you are going to a job interview (that's a thing that people do to possibly earn an income so they don't have to e-beg). Women should have conservative make-up and a non-distracting hair style. You're not auditioning for a LIVE action JEM and the Holograms or another Bratz remake. Do not wear short skirts, tube tops, flip flops, pajama pants, revealing blouses or audacious jewelry. This isn't a stroll to Walmart.
5. Be on time. If you don't know how to do that, and reading a clock is difficult, this video will help you out.
