What is BIPOC? And what's the difference between BIPOC and POC? I learned the difference between these terms last summer and it was eye-opening for me as I felt I was a decent white ally. But I learned that there is a difference between black people and other people of color.
This is an unusual video for my channel, but I felt that I needed to address the Black Lives Matter movement and what's going on in the US right now.
The term BIPOC was a new distinction for me, and hopefully my share will educate a few people. Ellen Degeneres was recently called out for not using the term black, and instead saying people of color. This distinction helps to explain what happened there. This video is probably for people who already understand why saying "All Lives Matter" is offensive.
I hope to hear from folks down in the comments. I know that I'm somewhere in the middle of my journey towards understanding this complex issue and I hope that this video adds constructively to the dialogue right now.
