✍ Dies irae ("Day of Wrath") is a dark and apocalyptic medieval poem from the 13th century that became enormously popular. It describes the Day of Judgment, in the grim Catholic view, and the coming of God to Earth to judge both the living and the resurrected dead in a merciless manner.
The original composition of Dies irae is attributed to Tomás de Celano, but it has been played and popularized in Requiem Masses by Berlioz, Verdi, Mozart, Webber or Stravinsky, among others. It has also transcended in popular culture thanks to its proliferation in movie soundtracks. There are many composers who have included the Dies irae in specific moments of their films, either shamelessly or subtly.
Although it's a tune that has been used in all genres, we have tried to compile in 2 videos most of the Dies irae listened in Horror movies and series.
