We cover the closing arguments and verdict in a high-stakes three-defendant attempted murder and home invasion trial out of Tallahassee, Florida.
One of the defendants, John’Darius Wright, is accused of shooting rookie Tallahassee Police Officer Caleb Babb while fleeing from a home invasion scene on Sandpiper Court in September 2023.
Officer Babb suffered massive blood loss, but survived—and has since returned to duty. He testified on the first day of trial, and today, he and his family were present in the courtroom for closing arguments and the verdict.
The case involves two separate home invasions:
In the first, Wright allegedly acted alone and shot a member of the Patel family in the face. That victim also survived.
In the second, occurring just hours later, Wright is accused of acting alongside Rahyim Sanders and Tyrell Guinnie in another home invasion.
Prosecutors argued that Wright carried out the first shooting, then participated in a second armed home invasion, during which Officer Babb was shot while responding to the scene.
