MoAn Inc. | Did LIES WE SING TO THE SEA Deserve All Its Backlash? @MoAnInc | Uploaded October 2023 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Today, I'm reviewing Sarah Underwood's "Lies We Sing To The Sea" with Spanish classics creator, Lacajadeisa!! For more book reviews featuring your favourite influencers and content creators, check out my channel page :)
When it comes tot his book, I truly believe it was been completely mismarketed (that’s not a word but I’m making it one!!) Underwood’s story takes place hundreds of years after the Odyssey and follows Leto and Melantho as they attempt to absolve Ithaca of an ancient curse that’s plaguing the young women of the island❤️🔥 It’s an H2O meets Totally Spies in Ancient Greece kind of story - NOT an Odyssey retelling in the slightest.
To most people’s surprise, I loved this book. I think a 15 year old Erica would have been OBSESSED with the action, the plotting and the romance that litters the pages of this book. It seems like everyone has gotten really bogged down in the idea that this is not an Odyssey retelling despite it being pitched as that, and honestly, it’s a shame. It’s more of a shame to me that the publishers wouldn’t CORRECTLY market this book to the public. Pick up this book expecting adventure, fantasy, magic, a beautifully real queer relationship (I can not express how the love between these characters leaps off the page) and an age old mystery to be solved. If that’s the kind of book you enjoy, then this is definitely the Young Adult book for you.
