The Street Stock Race at Bowman Gray on opening night had some interesting moments. Christian Joyce took his number 1 car to victory lane, and didn't appear to touch another car as he started the race from 5th.
There was the normal amount of contact and cautions from cars spinning or running into each other but the real question surrounds whether Kyler Staley got the bad end of a close call when he was side by side with Joyce when the caution came out.
Staley, who started 4th, worked his way to the lead when Bryant Robertson in the 72 car may have spun the tires on a restart and was very sideways when Staley made contact with Robertson spinning the 72 to the infield.
Staley held off Joyce for a few more laps until he was held up a little by the 72 car who was about to go a lap down when another caution came out. Staley and Joyce were side-by-side and NASCAR awarded Joyce the lead. But without electronic scoring or video replay that's quick and easy to use, there's no way to prevent these mistakes when you're counting on a handful of people watching everything.
Joyce pulled away in the final laps until another caution came out and the race ended under time limit rules.
