Just 40 light-years away lies one of the most exciting planetary systems ever discovered: TRAPPIST-1, with seven Earth-sized worlds orbiting a cool red dwarf star. ๐ญ For years, astronomers have dreamed that one of these planets might support life. Now, thanks to the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), weโre starting to get answers.
New JWST observations show no atmospheres on the three planets closest to the star โ a blow to hopes of habitability. But thereโs still reason for excitement: TRAPPIST-1e, sitting squarely in the habitable zone, remains one of the best candidates for life beyond Earth. ๐
In this episode of Mr. Universe, journalist Monte Belmonte and astrophysicist Dr. Salman Hameed explore what JWST has revealed about TRAPPIST-1, why TRAPPIST-1e still holds promise, and what this means for the search for life in the universe.
๐ง What You'll Learn:
โฆ Why the TRAPPIST-1 system is a top target for exoplanet research ๐ช
โฆ What JWST discovered about the atmospheres (or lack thereof) on nearby planets ๐
โฆ Why TRAPPIST-1e is still considered a strong candidate for life ๐ฑ
โฆ How astronomers search for signs of habitability across light-years ๐
โฆ What this discovery means for humanityโs quest to find life beyond Earth ๐ฝ
๐ Perfect For:
โฆ Space & astronomy fans across Pakistan, India & beyond ๐
โฆ Students & teachers exploring exoplanets & astrobiology in the classroom ๐
โฆ Fans of cosmic mysteries, James Webb discoveries & the search for alien life ๐
โฆ Urdu + English-speaking audiences who love accessible science explainers ๐บ
โฆ Anyone whoโs ever wondered if we are truly alone in the universe โจ
๐ Don't forget to subscribe for weekly cosmic conversations and bilingual content (English + Urdu) exploring astronomy, astrophysics, and space science.
