I tested Final Cut Pro 12.3 Ai color grading to see if it is the real deal.

In this video, I test Final Cut Pro’s new color grading AI Match Color feature on real footage using a frame grab from Mamma Mia as a reference. I compare it to Premiere’s and DaVinci Resolve’s auto match clip feature to see if Apple is actually doing something different — to see if this is just another overhyped auto-grade button.
I also ask the bigger question: can AI Match Color help match an entire timeline without having to grade every clip by hand?

My final take: AI Color Match is exciting for getting shots into the same world and matching the vibe of certain references, but I’d still treat it as a first pass. Convert first, match second, then finish the look with LUTs, CineDream, or whichever creative tools you prefer.
