For decades, scientists have wondered whether the ingredients for life began here on Earth, or whether they arrived from space. Now, new research is revealing something extraordinary: the Solar System has been filled with the building blocks of life since its very beginning, 4.6 billion years ago.
Earlier studies of asteroid Bennu showed an abundance of organic molecules, including 14 of the 20 amino acids essential for life, along with all five nucleobases used in DNA and RNA. And now, scientists have discovered something even more stunning: the crucial sugars ribose and glucose; key ingredients for biology as we know it. 🍬🧬
