Did Activision Finally Fix SBMM?

Last week with Black Ops 7 Season 5 we saw a matchmaking update that supposedly added a system that was "heavily inspired" by classic matchmaking. Now I'm going to be honest, I'm not really sure what the point of open matchmaking is anymore because from what I remember that was the entire marketing scheme behind that.

However, lobbies to seem a little more random in my experience. Two of our friends just recently started playing the game. One only ever played MW2019 and the other doesn't play cod. They are TRUE level 30's and both of them were able to have good games where they could go positive while queuing with me, a prestige 8 with a 2.0kd. So It seems to me as if it's just hit or miss now. Hopefully sometime in the future we can just get back to ping based matchmaking.
