Madelaine Lucas began writing music at the age of 17, for her solo project A Casual End Mile. Devotional followed from Lucas' collaboration with Luke Bacon and Rob Irish on her debut release Devils and Devotion (2010). The new name embodies the band's aesthetic, conjuring images of sincere, haunting, and archaic romanticism.
As a band they have shared stages with Mick Harvey, Loene Carmen, Jack Ladder and the Dreamlanders and Rohin Jones (The Middle East). Together, the band have further developed their sound, which flirts with the genres of folk, shoegaze and alternative-rock; drawing comparisons to Mazzy Star, The Dirty Three and Big Star with a result which is both strikingly earnest and otherworldly.
'Mercy' is a self-recorded and self-produced single demonstrating the band's new direction; mastered by the legendary Don Bartley (The Beatles, Silverchair, The Necks).
