Want a better stop? Start with a better backup.

When horses break down, they don’t “whoa.” They shift their weight back onto their hindquarters. That’s why so many performance horses spend time backing, it builds balance, responsiveness, and control.

And don’t be afraid to ask for more. If backing is difficult, make it smaller.

Can’t get four steps? Get two.
Can’t get two? Get one.
Can’t get one? Reward the lean.

Good training isn’t about forcing progress. It’s about finding the smallest successful step and building from there.
