This championship game was a rematch of last year's exciting championship game and the second meeting of the season between Cass Tech and King. Cass Tech (7-1) won the first meeting on a defensive touchdown. Cass Tech entered this championship game in search of their second-straight city championship against King. Unlike like the previous year, the Cass Tech offense struggled all season long as the defense carried the team. The defense was led by Mario Evans (Western Michigan University), Greg Williams (Saginaw Valley State University), Brandon Sanders, Clayton Neal, Nevara Smith (University of Akron), Jason Johnson and Jason Dixon. King (7-1) was making their sixth appearance in the PSL championship game in seven years. King was led on defense by Karon Riley (University of Minnesota), Curtis Blackwell (Hampton University), Norman Clement (Hampton University), and Deon Hunt (Hampton University). The King offense was led by all-everything athlete Lamar Henderson with running backs Robert Smith (Indiana University) and Sterling Anderson. Cass Tech won in overtime, 21-20.
