A Detroit father is recovering after the city says he was injured protecting his baby as a tornado tore through the lower east side.

The National Weather Service confirmed Friday a tornado touched down, leaving homes damaged, trees down and thousands without power.

CBS Detroit's Elaine Rojas-Castillo spoke with that family.
