I was paid 5 USD by @M_Pennanti to create a character theme for her friend named Boomko.
The name of the character is Jericho, and here's a little "about me" from the creator of the character himself!
"In summary, Jericho is a dude blessed with a powerful weapon and rightful rule of a kingdom, but all that power went to his head. The people soon didn't like him and they kicked him out. He ended up swearing to commit genocide on those people that he 'deserved' to rule."
What went through my head when I read his short explanation was that I needed some dark, probably badass, slightly eerie mood to the general feel of the music. However, I also couldn't dismiss the fact that the man's origin is literally royalty, so i thought about a few kingdom vibes too. What I ended up with as a result was a very basic spooky-sounding metal song with chorale and string section additions.
Of course, "dark and slightly eerie mood" meant that I was going to have to use the good old Harmonic Minor scale for majority of this thing. Not the biggest fan of the spoopy scale, but I do find it refreshing every once in a while. The reason the choir and strings are there as accompaniment is to evoke that little hint of royalty, seeing as our character Jericho here is apparently from that kind of bloodline.
If you're thinking about royalty, then usually that would mean blasting brass, right?
Unfortunately not in this case, as Jericho is described to be an antagonist and hence I decided against heroic horns. It would also be why I opted for the strings and choir path instead.
Fun facts, "Dethroned" was written, mixed and exported in the span of 10 hours. Imagine me, on my bed with my weak CPU macbook air, just SITTING THERE for said 10 hours working on a spoopy angy song. I didn't manage to think up of much original melody though, so you'll hear the repetitiveness in this!
The video for "Dethroned" was also made in 2 hours. I needed a video visualizer and so i found one at musicvid.org
After that, I received my visualizer video and proceeded into my video editor to make the transitions and effects happen. That's a heck lot of stock effects and transition, let me tell you that, haha!
